Running parallel to the sculptures is the artist’s voyage of self-exploration. Sam wants to show the person behind the work. The self that is portrayed to the world is being analyzed against the person that they believe themselves to be. These are comparably different and manifest themselves in different ways as alter egos.
The artist believes one’s true self can be defined as the authentic self, real self, or original self, being the most honest aspect of who you are, foregoing all masks, affectations, and pretensions. This state of ‘true self’ manifests when you’re at your most open, vulnerable, and carefree.
Sam is removing themselves from their comfort zone to explore these differences and find their true self.
